Program Description

The Human Experience Labyrinth is an integrative framework that helps mental health professionals conceptualize psychological distress within the broader context of human development, relationships, embodied experience, culture, suffering, transformation, and meaning-making. The framework presents human growth as nonlinear and explores seven interconnected layers of experience, including fear and duality, common suffering, ego structures, relational dynamics, embodied awareness, integrated knowledge and wisdom, and meaning. During this interactive program, participants will examine ways the framework may complement clinical mental health practice. The training includes reflection, case application, workbook exercises, discussion of nervous-system resourcing and embodied awareness, intervention pathways, and consideration of cultural and community context. The framework is presented as complementary to established clinical treatment, including therapy, medication when necessary, crisis care, and evidence-based interventions.

Post-Pathology: Applying the Human Experience Labyrinth to Mental Health Practice has been approved by NBCC for NBCC credit. Dr. Tiffany Ryan is solely responsible for all aspects of the program. NBCC Approval No. SP-5492.

*Workbook included.

Learning Objectives

● Describe the seven layers of the Human Experience Labyrinth and explain how the framework conceptualizes psychological distress, human suffering, growth, integration, and meaning-making as parts of a nonlinear human experience.

● Differentiate between clinical interventions focused on immediate stabilization and symptom reduction and interventions that support longer-term integration, relational connection, embodied awareness, and

meaning-making.

● Analyze a client presentation using the Human Experience Labyrinth to identify relevant dimensions of fear and duality, common suffering, ego structures, relational functioning, embodied awareness, integration, and meaning.

● Assess how nervous-system resourcing and embodied awareness may influence a client’s capacity to move from reactive responses toward greater reflection, choice, and integration.

● Apply the Human Experience Labyrinth to a clinical case example and formulate potential intervention

pathways that complement psychotherapy, psychoeducation, somatic interventions, community resources, and other appropriate forms of care.

● Evaluate the cultural and contextual relevance of the framework and identify ways that community practices, spiritual traditions, collective healing approaches, and culturally specific understandings of suffering can inform its use with diverse populations.
